Why Ghar
We started Ghar
so the hands behind it
could lead.
Ghar was started by two friends in Amsterdam, both originally from India, who wanted to bring their shared love of handmade textiles into everyday life — crafted by skilled artisan communities back home, made in small batches, and designed to bring a little more intention, and a little more brightness, into any home. We wanted intentional design: pieces made to breathe and to last, so nothing ends up thrown away after one season. We wanted to know the hands behind our home decor — the artisan who carved the block, the weaver who tied the yarn — and to live with pieces that feel made, not manufactured.
But Ghar is not just about fair wages. We chose our makers intentionally — because they believe in something more: that artisans should have agency — the ability to lead in design, to price their own work, to own their relationship with the market. Because when a craftsperson moves from wage earner to entrepreneur, it does not just change their income — it changes their trajectory. By choosing Ghar, you are part of that vision too — one that believes the craft, and the people behind it, should thrive through generations.
